One thing that I really hope to have happen with this new league, is that we really find our group to be active. An interesting idea I had from the past but never followed up with, was having each GM run TWO teams. Consider it almost like, the ultimate competition.
We start by having everyone squabble over the first 15 teams. The first 15 taken, and we use the order in which that happened, and flip it. The GMs then, in order, select a second team. So it is likely that each GM gets one good team and one bad, or they receive two middle of the road teams. The teams would have to be opposite conferences.
What is the benefit to this?
I imagine that this could really help promote competition. I am sure that most of us have GMed in leagues together, not all from the beginning. Not all got to start off with teams that are similar in abilities. Two teams are not a lot, so this would hopefully promote competition.
Obviously, trading between your two teams is not permitted. Big deal, you lose out on one of 29 trade partners. Not exactly a big loss. Yet you may ask what is a real benefit of this? Well, let us have a TRUE GM of the year type award. Not decided simply by VOTING, but rather, the accumulated win totals of BOTH teams, not just one. The team that wins, gets 1000 points, 500 per team. Not a huge prize, but meaningful.
So lets say not everyone wants two teams, or that someone quits, and a replacement only wants one team. We can just give them a handicap of 70 wins. Not quite the .500 season total of 81 wins, but close enough to help balance things out.
Let me know your thoughts.
